KEN ULMAN ELECTED HOWARD COUNTY EXECUTIVE IN MARYLAND

Washington, DC – Twenty-First Century Democrats, the 13th largest political action committee in the nation, would like to congratulate Ken Ulman and his campaign for their win in Howard County, Maryland. Ulman was only one of 34 candidates endorsed by Twenty-First Century Democrats throughout the 2006 election cycle.

“The election of Ken Ulman is a step forward for the citizens of Howard County, Maryland,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Ken will work hard in order to improve the quality of life of his constituents. We are confident that Ken will use his innate leadership abilities to encourage and motivate Howard County citizens to participate in their community.”

Ulman’s race against Republican Christopher Merdon and Independent C. Stephen Wallis was extremely competitive throughout this election season. However, Ken was able to appeal to the large bloc of unaffiliated voters in the county in order to win the county executive seat. As Howard County Executive, Ken will be an advocate for improving many public services, such as access to health care, environmental protections, and education reforms.

The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “We seek out and support true visionary, authentic candidates,” said Young. “In order to move our country forward, we need to elect bold leaders with innovative ideas, who will stand up for their beliefs. Americans want leaders like Ken Ulman, who are pragmatic and have a record of achieving their vision while in office. ”
