HANNAH PINGREE REELECTED TO MAINE’S STATE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Washington, DC – Twenty-First Century Democrats congratulates Hannah Pingree and her campaign for their victory in Maine’s 36th State House district. Pingree was one of 34 candidates endorsed by Twenty-First Century Democrats, the nation’s 13th largest political action committee, during the 2006 election cycle.

“We are proud to have endorsed Hannah Pingree this election season,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Hannah will strive to improve the lives of middle class citizens, in order to redefine the government’s commitment to the common good. As a clean election candidate, Hannah will work to keep government transparent and accountable, while also inspiring citizens to remain active in the political process.”

Pingree is currently serving her second term as the youngest woman in the Maine House of Representatives. Hannah’s victory over Republican challenger Seth G. Joy helped the Democrats maintain their majority in Maine’s House. As a state representative, Hannah will foster an agenda that will close the housing gap, increase the minimum wage, and extend affordable health care to all citizens in Maine.

The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “We are bringing the Democratic Party back to the people, and we’re making it a party of movement again,” said Young. “We need strong risk-takers to once again stand up for what they believe in, share their vision with America, and motivate millions of citizens to become active in their communities. Hannah Pingree is the type of leader who can generate bold ideas that cross ideological lines, express our values, and solve problems that are facing our world today.”
