DIANE FARRELL FALLS TO INCUMBENT IN CONNECTICUT CONGRESSIONAL RACE

Washington, DC – Twenty-First Century Democrats is disheartened by Diane Farrell’s loss in Connecticut’s 4th Congressional district. Farrell was one of 34 candidates endorsed by Twenty-First Century Democrats, the nation’s 13th largest political action committee, during the 2006 election cycle.

“We are proud to have endorsed Diane Farrell this election season,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Although Diane did not win today, we know that she will continue to fight for progressive ideals and motivate people to action in his community. We look forward to working with Diane again in her future endeavors.”

The race between Farrell and Republican incumbent Christopher Shays remained close throughout election season. Diane ran her campaign based on plans to move our country toward energy independence while also emphasizing the maintenance of a healthy environment. She promised to be a strong supporter in Congress on the issues of public safety, rights of senior citizens, and funding for public schools.

The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “We are bringing the Democratic Party back to the people, and we’re making it a party of movement again,” said Young. “We need strong risk-takers to once again stand up for what they believe in, share their vision with America, and motivate millions of citizens to become active in their communities. Diane Farrell is the type of leader who can generate bold ideas that cross ideological lines, express our values, and solve problems that are facing our world today.”
