Lois Murphy is a wife, mother, and attorney who represents small business owners, nonprofits, and families. She is active in her community and has held leadership roles in several organizations dedicated to improving women’s lives.

“Lois will be a wonderful Representative for the Sixth District because she is smart, tough and effective.” – Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell

What Makes Lois an Extraordinary, Visionary Leader

Lois believes that it is time for us to have a representative in Congress who’ll fight for change. Lois will fight to grow the economy and create jobs, and she’ll fight for fiscal responsibility, affordable healthcare, and a more secure America.

Lois says, “I will work hard to make sure that the Congress meets your needs, just as you work hard to meet the needs of your family. It will take someone with strength, values and determination to resist the culture of corruption and cronyism and to change Washington for the better.”

Read Lois’ Clean House Pledge which outlines her promise to adhere to a strict code of ethics once in Congress, including not accepting lobbyist gifts and not conducting secret lobbyist meetings.

Background

Lois, 42, was born in 1963 in Hempstead, New York, and her parents, both public school educators, helped her learn the importance of education. Lois graduated from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges magna cum laude in 1984, and Harvard Law School cum laude in 1987. At law school Lois met her husband, Benjamin Eisner, now a labor attorney who represents working people.

After graduating from law school, Lois clerked for a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She then joined the U.S. Justice Department before serving as associate legal counsel for NARAL Pro-Choice America, where she defended reproductive rights and worked to reduce the need for abortion through more effective and accessible family planning.

Lois has worked in the private sector as well, as a member of the growing law firm of Heckscher, Teillon, Terrill & Sager, P.C. She has been an adjunct professor at Temple University’s School of Law. She has also served as president and as a board member of NARAL Pro-Choice Pennsylvania.

Lois and Ben live in Montgomery County with their two daughters, Emily and Lily, who attend public schools. Like other working parents, Lois knows the challenges and joys of striving to meet the needs of her family and community. She will bring to Washington common sense, creativity, and a genuine understanding of the concerns of families in southeastern Pennsylvania.
