Fitz-Gerald's Opponent Funded By Swiftboat Vets

Former Colorado State Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald is one of three Democrats vying for the seat of Congressman Mark Udall (CO-2) who is running for U.S. Senate. Unfortunatly one of her opponents, Jared Polis, is being funded by supporters of the group Swift Boat and POWs for Truth. According to campaign finance reports filed by his campaign, Polis has accepted $6,350 dollars from the same people who helped fund the disgraceful attack ads on Senator John Kerry's war record during the 2004 presidential campaign.

"How does Jared reconcile accepting money from people, who not only support the war in Iraq, but did everything they could to destroy John Kerry's honorable record?" asked Fitz-Gerald's campaign manager, Mary Alice Mandarich. "Why would all these people, who are the polar opposites of the Democrats in the 2nd Congressional District which voted nearly 60 percent for Kerry in 2004, donate to his campaign? Furthermore, why would Jared ask or accept a contribution from them knowing what they believe?" Mandarich continued, calling on Polis to return the donations.

We Democrats can not allow our primaries to be influenced by people who take pages from Karl Rove's playbook of dirty tricks. Please donate to the Fitz-Gerald for Congress campaign and help fight against the Republican sleaze machine.

Oklahoma Republican Party Attacks Andrew Rice and 21st Century Democrats

The Oklahoma Republican Party recently produced an attack on 21st Century Democrats' endorsed candidate Andrew Rice. The website accused Andrew of spending a "lifetime weaving a tangled web of left-wing political connections."

Andrew Rice is exactly the kind of authentic, bold progressive who can resonate with voters because he will always stand up for what he believes and he won't let DC political consultants turn him into something he is not.

We at Twenty-First Century Democrats take pride in being associated with great organizations like Democracy for America, the Sierra Club, Stonewall Democrats, MoveOn, and the ACLU. Working together we can help Andrew unseat one of the worst Senators in Washington. Please join us in this effort and contribute to Andrew Rice or 21st Century Democrats today.

2007 Election Wrap-Up

On Tuesday, Democratic victories in Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, New Jersey and New York proved that Americans are tired of Republican rhetoric and hungry for progressive leadership. Twenty-First Century Democrats was active in several races across the country and three of our endorsed candidates - Lee Helgen, Tom Bullock, and David Meijas - are now elected officials. We intentionally targeted difficult districts and five of our seven races were decided by less than 3.7% of the vote. Several of our candidates ran in conservative areas against Republican incumbents who were not shy about playing very dirty - and very personal - politics. But we didn't let that intimidate us, and when the Republicans tried to distort our candidates' positions we were right there to set the record straight.

The elections in Virginia were exceptionally tight and while our endorsed candidates, Albert Pollard and Janet Oleszek, did not win their races (although Janet Oleszek is considering a recount), Twenty-First Century Democrats was an important part of the successful progressive effort to take control of the Virginia State Senate.

We are very grateful for the contributions we received from our supporters all over the country and particularly the Service Employees International Union. These funds allowed us to provide transportation, food and water for our canvassers during the final days of the campaign. They made over 2,300 phone calls and knocked on 4,282 doors for our endorsed candidates. More importantly, we forced the Republicans to spend money playing defense in State Senate districts that they have been able to take for granted for decades. By expanding the playing field in Virginia, Democrats were able to take control of the State Senate and will have a voice in the 2010 redistricting process.

It's important to remember that yesterday was only a warm-up for next year. The 2008 elections are now less than 362 days away, and the Republicans machine is in overdrive - making personal attacks their # 1 strategy. More than just spreading lies in Virginia, they've gone so far as sending racist flyers in New York and turned to gay-bashing in Kentucky.

Twenty-First Century Democrats won't sit back and allow our message of positive change or our candidates' positions to be distorted by our opponents. We invite you to help not only with our work to combat the Republican slime machine, but also to invest in our commitment to stay positive and elect candidates on their merits, not sound bites.

The 2008 election will be the most important election in decades. The critical issues facing America - from ending the war in Iraq, halting global warming, strengthening the economy, improving our children's education, and making sure everyone has healthcare - will not be solved unless we elect large Democratic majorities in Congress and across the country. Working together, we have the opportunity to put our nation back on track. We look forward to standing with you.

One More Day

Election Day 2007 is here! The polls open in less than 24 hours and Twenty-First Century Democrats' endorsed candidates are making their final appeals to voters in Virginia, Minnesota, Ohio, and New York.

With control of the State Senate up for grabs and redistricting right around the corner, Virginia has some of the most important off-year elections in the country. Using donations from our supporters across the country, Twenty-First Century Democrats has been flooding several of the most hotly contested races in the state with canvassers and phone calls. The funds we collect are used to buy gas, food and water for our people in the field, and over the weekend we knocked on another 1,646 doors and made over 2,300 more phone calls to Virginia voters.

Please help us as we make our final push to put our candidates over the top. Donate to Twenty-First Century Democrats today and together we can ensure success tomorrow.

Special thanks to the Georgetown University College Democrats who worked with us on the ground in Virginia.

On The Ground In Virginia

Election Day is almost here and Twenty-First Century Democrats is working hard to make sure we build momentum for 2008 with important victories this year. On Monday we initiated our ‘Virginia: Red to Blue Action Plan’ and over the last five days we have made 1,472 phone calls to voters and knocked on hundreds of doors. We want every Virginian to know what our candidates stand for and their vision for the future. Twenty-First Century Democrats is working to make a difference in some of the toughest races in the state, but we can’t do it alone.

We use contributions from our supporters all over the country to put boots on the ground in critical districts. This weekend, with the help of the Georgetown University College Democrats we will knock on thousands of doors for our endorsed candidates: Albert Pollard (Senate District 28), Janet Oleszek (Senate District 37), and Carlos Del Toro (House District 88). Two Strong Progressives for Saint Paul

At Twenty-First Century Democrats we are committed to electing strong progressive leaders who are dedicated to improving the lives of others. Over the last decade we have helped elect several amazing Minnesotans to public office. In 2006, we were honored to have the opportunity to work with Congressman Keith Ellison (MN-05), State Auditor Rebecca Otto and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie. This year, we are proud to endorse two more exceptional Minnesota candidates for the Saint Paul City Council: Pakou Hang and Lee Helgen. Pakou and Lee have consistently demonstrated their commitment to building a community in which all people are valued and respected. Their efforts have affected real change and bettered the lives of countless Minnesotans.

For the past four years Lee Helgen has worked hard to make a positive contribution to the City of Saint Paul and improve the quality of life for its residents. He has an impressive list of accomplishment as a member of the City Council. Lee has championed environmental sustainability and promoted several policies that have helped to make Saint Paul one of the greenest cities in America. He provided critical leadership in the effort to revitalize the Rice Street Commercial Corridor and helped fight poverty in the city by supporting the creation of affordable housing and job training opportunities. We need to reelect Lee to the City Council so that he can continue to address the needs of the people in Ward 5.

Hopefully when Lee returns to the City Council he will be joined by Pakou Hang, an extraordinary leader in her own right. Pakou has a long history of dedication to progressive causes. She has worked for groups like America Votes and Progressive Minnesota as well as candidates such as State Senator Mee Moua (Eastside) and US Senator Paul Wellstone. Pakou knows the importance of grassroots support and is committed to engaging the people of Ward 6 in the fight to build a better Saint Paul. “When we listen to as many voices as possible, we make sounder, more democratic, and more fully informed decisions,” she explains.

Lee and Pakou are working extremely hard to get elected, but they can't do it alone. They need all of our support to win their races. Please give some money or volunteer some time over the final weekend to help push them over the top. You can visit their websites (Lee's Website - Pakou's Website) to find out what else you can do to help. Together we can make sure that Saint Paul has the leadership it needs to move toward a better tomorrow.
