A little about myself....

Hello Progressive community! I'm so excited to be working for 21st Century Democrats as their new Online Communications Associate. Four years ago I started my own personal blog because I couldn't believe President Bush was re-elected. I found that sharing my frustration online was therapeutic and helped me find like-minded individuals. I thought that would be the extent of my political involvement.

However, 2 years ago I was in a pub in London and was verbally attacked by two inebriated Englishmen simply for being American. It was that moment that I knew I had to not only write via blogs, but also get my hands dirty with campaigns and organizations. I shouldn't have to be ashamed of being an American. Therefore, I returned from London in August 2006 and started volunteering as an organizer for Gov. Bill Richardson's presidential campaign.

I had some excellent experiences working with the Governor and his staff. I was able to help out at the Howard University debate, the DNC Fall and Winter meetings and at several fundraisers during my tenure as DC for Richardson organizer, but that was just my nights and weekends.

Prior to starting at 21st Dems, I taught Middle School for 10 years spanning Renton, WA, Italy, London and Washington, DC. I always taught History, but also taught English, Geography, English as a Second Language and Information Technology. I loved my time in the classroom and the students, but am even more excited about the Progressive movement in America.

I'm pleased to be working with an organization with such a strong past and bright future. You should see a lot more from me on the blog, but feel free to drop me a line (mike_at_21stDems.org) and introduce yourself. Or welcome me via the comments. I look forward to getting to know more of the folks who are the backbone of 21st Century Democrats.
